Thiruvananthapuram: In a major blow to the Left Democratic Front Government in Kerala, the Intelligence Bureau has started investigation into alleged misuse of Central funds in reclaiming Vembanad Lake for the Lake Palace resort owned by Kerala Minster Thomas Chandy in Alappuzha.

A team led by Deputy Superintedent of Police collected details from the municipality, harbour engineering, revenue department among others.

The probe is to look into whether the road constructed reclaiming 12.5 cents of the ecologically sensitive Vembanad Lake using funds of UDF and LDF MPs was for the benefit of common man.

Vembanad Lake comes under the Forest and Environment Ministry and is maintained by Wetland Authority of India. Meanwhile, the Collector’s report has suggested action against officials who committed lapses.
The preliminary report will be submitted soon.
