Teen boy commits suicide due to `pressure from parents’

A 16-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging yesterday allegedly owing to pressure from parents to study.
Prabhu, son of Balakrishnan, was a Grade X student of Government Higher Secondary School, Singanallur. According to police, Balakrishnan and his wife Gunasundari had been asking Prabhu to concentrate more on studies since he had to take the public exams this year. Prabhu was said to be an average student and found it difficult to meet the expectations of this parents who used to scold him for his performance.
Unable to withstand the pressure, Prabhu went to his grandmother’s house in the neighbourhood at Kunjipalayam in Pollachi. He was found hanging on a saree tied to the roof.
A case was registered in Pollachi West police station under Section 174 CrPC for hanging.
