Members of the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry have requested union Finance Ministry and GST Council to amend the ways monthly GST filings are done for Business to Business transactions since businessmen find it difficult to upload and file the GST returns in the current system.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Chamber said there were 68 lakh eligible GST payers in the country out of which 30 lakh were finding it difficult to upload even total sales details in the temporarily introduced GSTR -3B for the month of August. “Businessmen were doubtful whether they would be able to invoice details before tenth of every month. The high tax rates of 18 and 28 per cent and the complicated methods of filing GST returns may turn the new system into a failure,” the statement said.

“The GSTR – 1 should be got rid of and instead, every registered dealers who sells goods to registered or unregistered dealers, whatever might be the value, must do so only through e-way Bill. This will completely curb tax evasion and enhance tax revenue to the Government and pave the way for reduction in the high GST rates of 18 and 28 per cent. All the details required to be furnished in GSTR-1, will be available in the GSTN Portal itself.

Hence, GSTR – 2 and 3 returns could be auto populated from such details and sent to dealers through the portal. Corrupt practices will be completely eliminated. This procedure is followed with success in Malaysia and several other countries,” it said.
