IPS officer on probation held for cheating in civil service exam

For this IPS official, Assistant Superintendent of police posted in Tirunelvei, sitting for civil services mains to make it to the IAS ended in a disaster on Monday when he was caught allegedly cheating in the general studies paper.

A UPSC squad noticed him speaking to someone on Bluetooth device and getting answers on phone from his wife in Hyderabad. He was immediately apprehended, the phone, hall ticket, the Bluetooth device seized, police said.

The examination was being conducted at the Presidency Girls Higher Secondary school in Chennai. In the city 263 people were attempting the civil services main examinations that began on October 28.

Safeer Karim had got through UPSC mains and interview in 2014 and was selected for the IPS and was undergoing training at Nanguneri subdivision of Tirunelveli.

He has been booked for cheating (420 IPC) and also under the IT Act of 2003.

Chennai police has also sought the help of Hyderabad police to arrest his wife as well. He has been arrested and will be remanded in custody.

Police sources said that he faces dismissal from service as well.
