Accusing India of indifference and a ‘camp follower’ attitude in the Sri Lankan issue, the CPI has said that the international community will have to step in and ensure a credible inquiry into the ‘horrendous war crimes,’ as mentioned in the US-sponsored resolution adopted by UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

While talking to the media, CPI national secretary D Raja also said that Sri Lanka should ensure proportionate representation in the appointment of judges in the inquiry commission that is being set up to look into the allegations.

On the resolution adopted at Geneva on Thursday, he said that the judicial process should also have the participation of judges from Commonwealth and other foreign countries.

Raja also suggested that the Sri Lankan Government should find a long-term political solution to the problem by ensuring equal status to Tamil ethnic population, withdrawal of military presence from the predominantly-Tamil regions, and return of the seized lands.
