Police on Thursday night arrested three persons in connection with the theft of temple properties including idols.

According to police, Sub-Inspector Rajeswari, attached to the E2 Police Station (Crime), was on night patrol near the airport, when she spotted three persons holding suitcases in a suspicious manner.

The trio tried to escape when she went to enquire them. However, she managed to nab them. They were identified as Chandrasekharan of Brindavan Street (where the three were nabbed), Sibu Balachandran of Vadakncherry at Palakkad in Kerala and Jayapandian of Srinivasa Nagar in Edayarpalayam.

While checking their suitcase, police found idols of Saraswathi, Nagadevi, an ornament box, two copper vessels, two copper bangles, a conch, four brass rings, a copper signet and five watches.

Peelamedu police arrested the three and registered a case under Sections 454 (2), 380 (2) of IPC and various sections of Antiques and Art Treasures Act.

The three were produced in the special court for idol theft cases in Kumbakonam.
