Kochi: Young girl Akhila, who embraced Islam and became Hadiya and married a Muslim man, said she was not converted by force.

Before boarding the flight to New Delhi on Friday, Hadiya told reporters at the airport that she wanted to join her husband Shafin Jahan who had moved the Supreme Court against Kerala High Court’s ruling of restoring her to her parents.

Hadiya was to go by train to the national capital to appear before the SC on November 27. But due to security threat, it was decided to take her and her father K M Asokan by flight. Even as the police asked her not to speak to the media, she burst out to the mediapersons waiting to get her byte at the airport.

The Kerala High Court nullified Hadiya’s marriage with Jahan based on a petition filed by her father Asokan saying that she was converted to Islam as part of a plan to send her to Syria to join ISIS.
