Padmanaban Gopalan, the founder of NGO named No Food Waste, is more than happy with the report card of his organization. No Food Waste is an initiative to collect untouched excess food from different locations and donate it to the hungry and the needy.

The NGO has managed to recover 4,265 kilo of cooked food worth nearly Rs.6,40,000 in the month of September alone.

Calls for collecting food keep pouring in and this has prompted Padmanaban to launch a mobile app. “October 16 is celebrated as World Food Day. I’m going to launch the No Food Waste app on this day. The app will help people who wish to give away the excess food to those who need it,” Padmanaban says. If contributors wish to donate enough food to feed 30 or lesser number of people, the app will automatically direct them to the nearest food distribution centre. If there is enough to feed more than 30 people, the donors can request for the food to be picked up through this app.

Padmanaban currently has only one pick up van.

This app will be launched for the Android platform only. But the app’s creator says that he is looking for people to help him make No Food Waste app available for the Apple and Windows platforms as well.
