The higher education system needs to be remodeled as no college or educational institution, including a university in the country has fared well in global ranking, according to a top office-bearer of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

It is in this backdrop that the third edition of the National Higher Education Conclave is being organised here and experts will deliberate on how to reorganise and remodel the higher education system over the next five years, looking at funding, leadership and management, quality assurance, autonomy and accreditation.

The two-day session from December 1 will have the theme ‘transformation in higher education’, conclave chairperson Dr R Nandini told mediapersons here today.
CII has been working to connect with ground realities, including skill needs, industry readiness and the research capabilities system and bring about a convergence of efforts towards promoting an innovation-based culture with expected outcomes, she said.

A document on the recommendations to the National Education Policy was prepared with inputs from stakeholders and submitted to the Government last year, Conclave Co-chairperson S Malarvizhi said.

The goal of the new higher education system would be to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students and establish the foundations of knowledge-based economy rather than being a destination for outsourcing services for other countries, Malarvizhi added. The conference will have senior bureaucrats, besides several thought leaders address the delegates.

CII is also organising the first edition of CII school education conference on December 2 with the theme ‘school leadership for the 21st Century’.

With Tamil Nadu Government revamping the school education syllabus to serve as an enabler for students to prepare for their career pursuits,a report on syllabus enhancement recommendations-2017 was submitted to State School Education Minister KS Sangottaiyan, Nandini added.

The conference will focus on curriculum, pedagogy and teachers training, use of technology, technical and soft skills and counseling, she said.
