Awareness on hygiene: Rotaract Club to reach out to more students

Around 100 students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thondamuthur participated in an awareness programme ‘Wonder Women’ on Tuesday.

Organised by the Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony, the programme aimed at creating awareness on personal hygiene and maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings.

Addressing the students, Soundarya, Event Chairman, ‘Wonder Women’, urged the students to consume healthy food and drink 5-6 litres of water, especially when they have their menstrual cycle. Students from Grades 7 to 9 participated in the programme. Rotaract members advised the students on the importance of using sanitary napkins during their cycle and said lack of hygiene could lead to serious, illness including cancer.

Rotaract Club member Soubhagya highlighted the importance of Swachh Bharat mission.

“We are planning to reach out to more students and create awareness among public. As part of ‘Wonder Women’ we are also trying to create funds and aim to install sanitary pad vending machines in schools in the future,” said Balaji, President, Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony.
