Smart cities: UrbanLab to focus on Smart Campus project

Indo-German Smart Initiative (IGSI) – a network of leading German research and planning institutions – strives for knowledge and technology transfer between Germany and India in the field of smart cities.

By working on actual planning tasks, participants of UrbanLabs will investigate programmatic gaps in recent smart city proposals and will furthermore experience methods of integrated and collaborative planning processes, which set individuals and users of urban spaces in the Centre of itself.

After conducting the first UrbanLab on the development of Connaught Place, New Delhi, a second Urban Lab has been planned by Technical University, Berlin, in Karunya Institute of Technology (Deemed-to-be University) here for three days from Wednesday.

This will focus on the development of a Smart Campus project, as prototype for smart urban development of Coimbatore.

Six representatives from leading planning companies (buildings and urban design, mobility, water, energy, building management, campus integration) will work together on ideas and strategies, to bring smart ideas for future Indian cities into practice, a varsity release said today.

The UrbanLab is structured into a one day conference and a two-day workshop and delegates from various fields of science, businesses, NGOs and governance will discuss perspectives on urban
challenges and work together on innovative solutions to create a smart campus as a tangible lighthouse for urban and infrastructure development at Coimbatore.

The IGSI is supported by the network partners Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Deemed-to-be University) here and National Institute of Urban Affairs, Delhi, it said.
