Kochi: Timely action by a few traders helped to avert an attempt to kidnap a girl child from North India child in Thrissur on Wednesday night.
The four-year-old Kajol was reported missing by her aunt with whom she was staying in a rented house.

Her parents Ramesh and Poonam are in their home state of Uttar Pradesh.

Kajol was playing in front of the house and was suddenly found missing. Her guardian went in search of the child and came to know from the neighbours that a beggar was seen in the area. Soon they approached the police.

It was around this time that the police got a call from a trader at nearby Kunnamkulam about detecting a suspected case of abduction.

The child was found crying inconsolably in the company of the beggar Vijayan, 45, of Kollam, police said.

They detained the child and Vijayan and informed the police who reached the spot and took the child and restored her to the guardian.
