As part of reducing traffic congestion on Trichy Road, the 3ft-wide concrete medians will be replaced with flat 1.5ft-wide ones like that on Avinashi Road.

According to sources, Trichy Road is one of the major ones in the city connecting it with districts.

Owing to rise in vehicle numbers and short road, motorists struggle to cross Singanallur traffic on Trichy Road. As a result, Singanallur has heavy traffic during peak hours.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic Sujithkumar said that to reduce traffic congestion in Singanallur area and on Trichy Road, the 3ft-wide concrete structures would be replaced with separate concrete center median structures of 1.5ft width.

“By doing this, we will get additional space of 2ft on Trichy Road and we can also remove these structures easily during emergency cases,” he said.

This would be implemented soon after discussions with corporation and highway department personnel.

Another step initiated was making the Brooke Bond Road connecting Mettupalayam and Avinashi roads into a two-way stretch from November.
