Centre promoting literacy among minorities in big way: Naqvi

Kottayam: Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said the Centre had allocated a major chunk of money for promoting literacy and skill development among the minority community.

The government was committed to providing affordable and quality education tostudents, he said while addressing a function at Kozhikode.

The government would start ‘Tahreek e Taleem’ campaign,’ for the benefit of minorities. Educational institutions of minority communities had been brought into the mainstream education system over the last six months.

In a bid to encourage girls from minority communities to go for higher studies, the Centre had a plan to give Rs 51,000 as gift during the marriage of girls who completed graduation.

Naqvi claimed that there were many schemes which had provided employment opportunities to over 50 lakh people from minority communities.
