COIMBATORE: The 48-day rejuvenation camp for elephants from temples and mutts in Tamil Nadu ended on Tuesday at Thekkampatti on the outskirts.

In all, 33 elephants – 26 from temples, five from Mutts in Tami Nadu and two from temples in Pudhucherry – participated in the camp, which began on January 4 near Mettupalayam, about 50 km from here.

Tamil Nadu Forest Minister Dindigul Srinivasan, Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani and HR and CE Minister Sevvur Ramachandran sent off the elephants, which were accommodated in individual trucks and lorries to their respective temples.

Elephants were given medicines, healthy and nutritious food and herbal bath and also physical exercise as part of rejuvenation, even as the mahouts were given training on how to look after the elephants in scientific way.
