Prison security tightened after mail threat

Tension runs high at the Coimbatore central prison, which is housing Munna, the associate of ‘Police’ Fakrudeen, after authorities received a threatening letter in the name of Al Qaeda, bearing a picture of Osama bin Laden. Security has been stepped up.

Following the clash between the prison inmates and the cops in Chennai Puzhal prison, six terrorists have been shifted to prisons in Madurai, Vellore, Trichy, and Coimbatore. ‘Police’ Fakrudeen, who was in Puzhal prison, was shifted to Vellore prison; Panna Ismail to Madurai prison; Munna (alias) Rafique to Coimbatore prison; and, Mannadi Abdullah to Trichy prison.

The Coimbatore central prison received a threat on October 8. The letter, addressed to D.Pazhani, Superintendent of Coimbatore central prison, was sent from a Base Movement, Ukkadam. The letter said that a few specific organisations are being pressurized and the consequences of it will soon be felt. Further, the letter claimed that “the government is closing its eyes and the court is denying justice; our work has begun and we have started to count the days.”

According to official sources, the key words in the letter included– continuous
encroachment… distressed prisoners..closed eyes of Government.. inarticulate
justice and court. Tamil Nadu will be resonance..our mission
started.. count your days.

In the background was an Indian map, with all States except Jammu
and Kashmir and bore the photograph of Osama Bin Laden at the bottom, with Al Queda written in English and Arabic language.

The letter was sent to Vishwanathan, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore. Following his order, the cops of Race Course Police Station have filed a case and are investigating if the letter was really from terrorist outtfit or pranksters. Preliminary investigations have found that similar letters were sent to prison superintendents of Vellore, Madurai, and Trichy.
