Puthiya Tamizhakam is planning to hold a massive rally in Chennai on October 17 to demand the release of more than 60 Dalit activities who are currently in prison.

The decision to conduct the protests was made at the meeting of party’s district, zonal and urban secretaries held in Coimbatore today, Puthiya Tamizhagam founder president and MLA, Dr. K. Krishnasamy informed the reporters here. The meeting condemned the detention of party organizer in Ramanathapuram District, S. Kathiresan, under the National Security Act on October nine, Krishnasamy said.

Stating that there was increasing atrocities and violence against Dalits, Krishnasamy asked if the police was trying to appease a certain community with its selective action.

Puthiya Tamizhagam is also planning to hold similar protests in New Delhi. The party hasn’t decided a date yet.
