Suicides by two police constables attached to the same battalion – the 4th Battalion
of Tamil Nadu Special Police in Kovaipudur – within 24 hours, has created an air of unease and panic among fellow policemen.

Selvaraj, a Grade II constable had committed suicide on Monday night by consuming poison due to suspected financial troubles. He had borrowed a huge amount to construct a house. He had got married only about 45 days ago.

Less than 24 hours later, another constable, Muthupandi, was found hanging in his quarters last evening. Police suspect that he had taken the extreme step after love failure. Before killing himself, Muthupandi had taken a selfie video, narrating the reason why he was committing suicide. He had mailed the video to his lover. There also were some Whatsapp messages to her.

An inquiry was conducted by a senior police official.
