PDS told to keep sufficient stock during festivals

Coimbatore District Administration officials have been advised by the State level officials to hasten the work of the Public Distribution System (PDS) during festival seasons at the district level review meeting at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

R. Gopalakrishan, Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, said that essential commodities should reach the people in time and added that the PDS was given top priority by the State Government.

“Fair price shops should be opened on time and the stocks should always be sufficient for the people. The cooperative department, civil supplies wing and revenue department should work together to fulfill this task,” he said.

He also stated that the available stocks should be informed to the public by displaying the same on the notice boards and added that the stocks should not run out during festival seasons including the Pooja and Diwali holidays.

“The commodities should be stored well in advance and distributed in the right manner during festival season,” said Mr. Gopalakrishnan.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan also conducted a surprise visit to the TNCSC godown at Pollachi along with K. Radhakrishnan, Additional District General of Police for Civil Supplies CID and Jayashree Muralidharan, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, and checked the stock position and movement of essential commodities. They also carried out inspections at state border check posts like Valayar, Velandavalam and Meenakshipuram.

The team further advised the officials at the Pollachi Food Cells office to dispose the seized vehicles as per government norms.

District Revenue Officer T. Christuraj, Senior Regional Manager of TNCSC, P. Srivenkatapriya, and various officials from the Enforcement Wing also participated in the review meeting.
