DySP transferred for theatre owner’s arrest in Malappuram child abuse case

Kochi: With the arrest of the theatre owner in Malappuram over informing about the child abuse in his theatre getting controversial, Malappuram DySP Shaji Varghese has been transferred. The case has been handed overto CBCID.

Varghese has been asked to report at police headquarters and has not been given any charge Meanwhile, IG Thrissur range M R Ajit Kumar said there was nothing wrong in the arrest of theatre owner. But the police should have taken legal advice before jumping the gun, he said in his report to the DGP.

He said that he was also not informed about the arrest while the SP Pratheesh Kumar had knowledge of it. On the contrary, the SP said he too was not aware of the arrest.

The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) has condemned the arrest. It said the Chief Minister’s direction to the DGP to look into the matter was a welcome step.
