TNAU advises dryland farmers to sow pearl millets

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has advised the farmers of drylands to sow pearl millets this season. Around harvest time, during the months of February-March, it will bring prices of around Rs.1,500 to 1,600 per quintal.
The Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre of TNAU has forecasted a higher price for millets during its harvest season this time. Feb-March 2016.
Whole grains, greenish and clean pearl millets bring good prices to the farmers. Pearl millet, a drought-resistant crop, is an important feed and fodder crops. It is also an important component in preparation of nutrient health mix.
Pearl millet was cultivated in 54,412 hectares in Tamil Nadu during 2013-14. 1.17 lakh tonnes were harvested that year.
