An eight-year-old female elephant, living in Theppakkadu elephant camp in Mudumalai, will be taken to Samayapuram Mariamman Temple in Tiruchirapalli, to be used for temple services.

The elephant, Masini, from Kargudi, near Theppakkad, was being reared in the camp all these years, Forest Department sources said.

Masini will be taken to Chadivayal elephant camp in Coimbatore district this evening, where it will be trained to become familiar with people and also to become acclimatized with the temple environment for a month, they said.

After shifting Masini, the number of elephants in Theppakkadu will go down to 25,
they said.
