Coimbatore : City Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Dr K Vijayakarthikeyan on Saturday said it was necessary to bring art out of museum for the public to witness and beautify the city.

At a panel discussion on ‘street art project’ he said there was overwhelming response for the project, which transformed five government buildings and walls into beautiful structures, with an heritage look.

The painting reflected the flavour of the city, he said, adding that the local artisans would take up the project and paint the remaining buildings and premises, including the railway station and junction.

The corporation was committed to take forward to project to other areas, he said.

Artisans from various parts of the country had transformed five buildings, including the public library and Government Hospital, under the initiative of Street Art India.

“Our aim is to take ‘art’ out of the museums and present it to people. We focus on depicting the local culture of that geography,” Street Art India curator Giulia Abrogi said in her remarks.

Based on the success of the project, offers were coming from many institutions like city airport and railway station for painting their premises, she added.
