Coimbatore : A couple working in a brick kiln at Kanuvai on the outskirts was rescued from a cow elephant which attempted to break into their house in the early hours of Wednesday.

Muthusamy and Panayammal from Madurai returned home from the kiln late last night, forest department sources said.

Suddenly they heard the trumpeting sound and noticed an elephant and its baby attempting to break the sidewalls of the house. They ran towards the kiln and hid behind Forest department officials and persons from wildlife protection committee, who were on rounds, rushed to the spot and burst crackers to drive away the elephant and rescued the couple.
