Two-day fund-raising market in Coimbatore to treat leukemia-afflicted kids

Coimbatore : Out to raise funds for providing treatment to children suffering from leukemia, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity is organising a two-day flea market in the city from December 1.

In the first phase, the club had identified five children between one and six years to get them treated and the event Jumboree would have 120 stalls, including 20 food courts, its chairman Kota Badrinath told reporters today.

The doctor-members of the club felt leukemia could be cured involving a minimum of Rs 2 lakh and club expected to collect a minimum of Rs 10 lakh from the event, Badrinath said.

Some stalls were reserved for supporting Toda tribe to sell their products like shawls, the making of which was a dying art, he said. A few were given free of cost to visually impaired and the needy to showcase their skills and products.
