Stern action against those who support child marriage

Coimbatore : The Government will take stern action against those who supported and indulged in the child marriage, a top official in the Social Welfare and Noon Meal Scheme Department, said Thursday.

A massive awareness was created by the Government on Child marriage, to the public, which has reached almost all. This has to be completely stopped, S.Revathy, Joint Director, (Women Welfare), Social Welfare and Noon Meal Scheme Department, Chennai said here.

The only instrument to stop child marriage was education, she said at the International Women’s Day programme held in Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, jointly organised by the Distric Social Welfare Department.

Stating that technological advancements have brought so many changes in the society but problem continues in achieving women’s development, she said that it is the woman who has to decide on the development and not others.

Physical and psychological problems are the major factors faced by the victims of child marriage, she said.

Women are attaining the highest positions in various organizations, which is a welcoming step, Revatny said adding that leadership capacity is important for the ladies who are taking up top positions.

Revathy advised the girls to be more vigilant when using mobiles and social media.
