Coimbatore : Search operations are on the jungles of Mettupalayam in the district, to flush out Maoists injured in a firing two days ago in Wayanad in Kerala, reportedly hiding there.

One suspected Maoist K T Jaleel was killed and three others injured in an exchange of fire between police in Vythiri in Wayanad on Wednesday night.

On reports that the escaped Maoists may enter Tamil Nadu through Coimbatore or Nilgiris for treatment, police are keeping strict vigilance along the borders since yesterday morning.

A batch of special task force, which is already monitoring the areas regularly, has intensified its search operations in the jungles coming under Sirumugai and Mettupalayam ranges, police said.

Vigilance has been kept in private hospitals, as the injured may sneak in for treatment and vehicles entering Tamil Nadu are under scrutiny, they said.
