Of late an increasing number of peacocks are being found dead on Dr. Jagannathan Street in Peelamedu. Many peacocks are generally spotted in Peelamedu residential area in search of food, moving from the dense trees inside Coimbatore Institute Technology (CIT) college campus in Avinashi road.

According to S. Mani, Corporation conservancy worker, more and more peacocks are getting electrocuted by overhead power lines in the street. “The dead peacocks are cleared by us in our waste collecting vehicles. If they are found dead hanging from the electric wires, their remains are disposed of by electricity board workers”.

P. Pachamuthu, resident of Dr. Jagannathan Street, said: “It is very sad to witness the constant death of peacocks, the national bird of India, so often on our streets. He wanted the authorities to take necessary action to control the flocks of peacocks in the residential area and prevent their deaths by electrocution.
