Amrita ranked 8th best university in India

Coimbatore : Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham emerged as the 8th best university in the country for the second consecutive year in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2019.

The University was also ranked 5th among medical colleges in India, as per the list released by President Ram Nath Kovind on April 4.

Amrita was once again ranked the 8th best university in India behind well-established and prestigious public institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, JNU, Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, Calcutta University, Kolkata, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Anna University, Chennai, a varsity release said Tuesday.

In 2017, Amrita was ranked ninth best.

Amrita School of Medicine was ranked 5th best medical college in the county after AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMR, Chandigarh, CMC, Vellore and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, it said.

“The recognition would not have been possible but for the tiring efforts put in by the students and staff, and I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of India in bestowing this honour. I am happy with the consistency in the recognition to the academic excellence, outstanding faculty and world-class infrastructure that the university is known for,” Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Vice Chancellor, P Venkat Rangan said in the release.
