Coimbatore : CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Wednesday termed the verdict delivered by Supreme Court on Rafale as very significant. It was clear that the Government had concealed many facts of the deal.

“This the Modi Government had hoped will not happen,” Yechury told reporters.

The review petition was necessary because it has become clear that the government concealed certain facts and told many untruths before the Supreme Court, particularly on the CAG report, which was never there.

The new documents were very important because, according to him, India’s security and the capacity of the Air Force were being undermined.

Stating that the original deal was for 126 fighter aircraft and 36 to be delivered with immediate effect, he said that Modi was referring that national security was primary concern of his government, as they were the only concerned and not others.

Quoting Modi’s words that Balakot airstrike could have been different if Rafale fighter was with Air Force, Yechury asked what was the reason for it, because you (Modi) renegotiated the deal, by over-riding the officials and multi- ministerial committees.

He said that parallel negotiations were held by the National Security Advisor, under the directions of Modi and clauses like anti corruption, sovereign guarantee and no bank guarantee were dropped.

“There is a very very big scam involved in the deal. Why you renegotiated the deal Mr Modi, because there was a massive degree of corruption in this deal,” he charged..

The CPIM wanted a speedy hearing of the case, even as the electoral process is beginning from tomorrow, he said.
