IAF flags off centenary marathon

Coimbatore : The Indian Air Force Sunday organised a Half Marathon here to mark the Centenary Celebrations of late Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh Distinguished Flying Cross. Air Force Administrative College (AFAC) conducted the event here with enthusiasm, sportsman spirit and camaraderie to pay tribute to the legendary Marshal.

Air Commodore Satish Menon, the College Commandant, read out the Chief of the Air Staff’s message to the runners, Air Warriors and families and flagged off the Marathon, an official release said here.

He apprised the audience about the life and accomplishments of the legendary Marshal which included receiving Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) in 1944 for his outstanding leadership in Burma Campaign during World War-II and Padma Vibhushan award for distinguished service during Indo-Pakistan war of 1965.

The College has the honour of hosting the Marshal in every rank from Group Captain to Air Chief Marshal with the last visit on June 6, 1969, when he visited this college on his farewell as Chief of the Air Staff.

Air Commodore Menon and Mrs Jayashree Menon, President, Air Force Wives Welfare Association gave away prizes and certificates to the best performing participants.
