Coimbatore : A 53-year-old groundnut merchant was arrested Sunday for making a prank call that a Sri Lankan refugee had planted a explosive device in Pollachi railway station this morning,

According to police, Rukmangadan had made the call last night that one Shivarag, a gas mechanic and a Sri Lankan refugee, had planted some bomb at the railway station, based on which police and railway police carried out thorough check at the railway station till morning, but nothing was found..

Tracing the call, police zeroed in at Rukmangadan and during interrogation he said to have confessed to making the call under the influence of liquor to trap Shivraj, his best friend.

He was upset as Shivaraj’s wife refused to promptly respond to him on the health condition of her father, police said.

Rukmangadan was arrested and remanded, police said.
