Coimbatore : A four-member gang looted 25 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs.1.45 lakh from a house in Kottur, after threatening a woman at knife point, police said Sunday.

According to the police, the gang entered the house in Kottur in rural limits late in the evening yesterday, when the woman, 53-year-old Sasimala, was alone there.

One of them, with his face covered, threatened her at knifepoint while the other three went inside, broke open an almirah and took Rs.1.45 lakh kept in it..

They also took away 25 sovereigns of gold ornaments, including the mangalasutra worn by the woman, police said.

Police began their investigations on being informed late at night.
