Alleged elephant killer held after 3 years

Coimbatore : Forest officials on Friday arrested a person wanted for killing an elephant calf with a country bomb three years ago.

According to police,Ranga alias Rajendran was at large since July 2016, knowing that officials were in search of him in connection with the case.

Rajendran had placed a country bomb in his field and an elephant calf accidentally took it into its mouth resulting in an explosion.

After a few ways, the calf died, without responding to the treatment.

Forest officials today noticed a person moving in a suspicious manner and took him for questioning,during which he
said to have confessed to the crime. Three persons were already arrested in the case.

Later he was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
