In Chennai, the Gurudwara (temple of the Punjabis) located on G. N. Chetty Street continues to offer food to all its visitors. Back home in Coimbatore city, the Gurudwara and members of the Punjabi community are doing their best to reach out to the flood hit victims across the state.

A few days ago, the ladies of the Punjabi community got together at the R.S. Puram Gurudwara and prepared around 2,000 chappatis. They were packed and sent through the various NGOs that are involved in the collection and distribution of relief material.

“We have received information that the flood-hit victims are in need of fruits, milk powder, and medicines. The members of the Punjabi community in Coimbatore will collect the needed items and have them sent through various NGOs by tomorrow. We are more than ready to help,” Harpreet Singh Anand a.k.a Tony Singh Anand, Committee Member of the Coimbatore Gurudwara said.

Apart from making contributions at the Gurudwara, several Punjabi families have also been helping through their friends and the local NGOs.

Coimbatore is home to around 140 Punjabi families. Punjabis, known for their unity, stand with each other in good and bad times. Every Sunday, the Gurudwara in Coimbatore opens its doors to people to worship their God and a meal (langar) is served to all the devotees. Nearly 400 people including non-Punjabis visit the Gurudwara on Sundays.
