Cause: Every country around the world celebrates world heart day on September 29th to create awareness on prevention and early detection of heart disease and its risk factors. While heart disease is mostly equated to men, women are increasingly affected and there is a silent pandemic heading up. Hormonal, obstetric and inflammatory conditions increase the risk of heart disease among them, apart from the traditional risk factors. Intense efforts are needed to create awareness among women on this silent pandemic.

September is also considered as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) month. PCOS is a common hormone disorder in women and one of the important cardiovascular risk factors in women

Passion: The department of Preventive Cardiology, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) together with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, PSG Hospitals focuses its World Heart Day activities to promote cardiovascular health among women. In 2019 and 2020, the department organized walk/run event for women employees of PSG hospitals to highlight the importance of physical activity for heart health. In 2022, the department spearheaded a huge women exclusive marathon event “HEARTATHON-2022” open for public, also inaugurating “WIN- Women In Nurturing your heart” a community based program to promote heart health among women and their family and community at large.

The second edition, HEARTATHON -2023 is held on 24thSeptember 2023 with 3km, 7km & 10km run exclusively for women.
