The District Health Department has plans to soon conduct various awareness drives in Coimbatore in order to prevent dengue and swine flu.

According to officials from the health department, more than 300 medical staff, including doctors and nurses, will participate in the 36 mobile medical camps all over the district as a part of the awareness drive. “We have tied up with various NGOs and college students in this regard and we expect more than 4000 volunteers to participate in the drives,” the official said.

The officials have further informed that the department is also holding discussions with the City Corporation to organize the events at bus stands, railway stations and other public places. “We are planning to reach out to as many people as possible and spread awareness in order to eradicate dengue from Coimbatore,” he said.

It may be noted that an octogenarian recently died of swine flu in the city. Some more patients are being treated at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
