Southern Railways wins energy conservation award again!

The Southern Railways has won the first place among the various zonal railways for energy conservation at the ‘National Energy Conservation Award – 2015,’ for the second time in five years.

According to sources, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the Ministry of Power had previously awarded the Southern Railways under the same category for its efforts in energy conservation in 2009-2010. The then Chief Electrical Engineer of Southern Railways, M.C. Murali, had received the award from Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power.

Southern Railways has won the award for its continuous efforts in various energy conservation measures to tackle the rising electrical loads after electrical grip and modernization of maintenance provision of improved passenger and amenities were introduced. It may be noted that the Southern Railways had brought in modern technology and introduced the BEE star-rated equipments for saving energy in its workshops.

The award will be given by the Minister of State (in charge) for Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal on December 14, which is also celebrated as the National Energy Conservation Day, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

The General Manager of Southern Railways, Vashishta Johri, and R.K. Kulashrestha, the Chief Electrical Engineer of Southern Railways will receive the award.
