The dengue threat in the city has led to routine spot visits by Health Inspectors. During such a routine visit, a goldsmith got into a heated argument with an Inspector and the former was fined.

Coimbatore Health Inspector Kamala Kannan along with his team of sanitary workers and health staff went on their routine check around the city.

Usually when there are unwanted pots, cups, and coconut shells, water somehow gets filled in them. It was during one of these routine checks at Raja Street that they found larvae growing in coconut shells around the shop of a goldsmith. The goldsmith either took no notice of it, or he was reluctant to keep the place clean.

It is this larva that leads to the outbreak of dengue. In view of this, he was imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000. Following this, the goldsmith started an argument with the Health Inspector for imposing the fine. He also called a few others for support. The police was called to help the Health Inspector collect the fine.
