Following reports of naxal infiltration, combing operations have been stepped up in the Nilgiris district and the jungles bordering Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring states.

According to police, the Special Task Force and Tamil Nadu police, in a joint operation, are keeping strict vigil in the jungles bordering Karnataka and Kerala to stop the Naxalites and extremists from entering Tamil Nadu.

Surveillance cameras have been installed at some 30 strategic points in these areas, to monitor suspicious movements in the jungle. An unconfirmed report says that a self-proclaimed naxalite was arrested from a forest area along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
