Police today arrested a man on charges of harassing his wife for more dowry. They are also on the look out for his four brothers.

Ajitha, hailing from Kanyakumari, and staying in Irugur after marriage, lodged a complaint against her husband, Ranganathan and family members, in the East All Woman Police Station, that they were torturing her to bring more dowry, police said.

Stating that her parents had given Rs. 2 lakh and 20 sovereign of gold ornaments as dowry during the marriage last year, Ajitha said that her husband and his brothers started demanding her ornaments from the first week after marriage.

As she refused to part with the ornaments, the brothers started abusing her. Ranganathan sought divorce.

Unable to bear the torture on her and her parents, the complainant sought action against Ranganathan and his brothers, based on which the husband was arrested.

Police are on the look out for the brothers.
