The Mahila Court has sentenced a 60-year-old man to five years imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 15-year-old step daughter about two years ago.

According to the prosecution, Bhagyanathan (then 58) had raped his stepdaughter, daughter of his second wife from her first husband, on September 10, 2013, after making her unconscious by giving sleeping pills in soft drinks.

When the daughter realized that she was sexually assaulted by the old man, she informed her colleagues and, on their advice, lodged a complaint with the police. The case was heard at Mahila Court.

The Judge, G Raja ordered the accused to undergo five years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.5,000.
