Even as the civic body authorities managed to pass a series of resolutions during the corporation council meeting the council meeting however did not end as planned as councillors of AIAMDK and DMK engaged in a heated argument over Ward 33 of the Coimbatore Corporation here on Tuesday.

It all started when J. Mohan Ranganathan, Councillor of Ward 33 from DMK complained during the meeting that his ward is being continuously ignored by the civic body. He further alleged that the civic body had failed to even provide the basic facilities. His complaint was received and was redirected to the respective officials of the civic body by Mayor P. Rajkumar.

However, Mohan Ranganathan, who refused to settle with the answer, staged a demonstration inside the Corporation premises along with some members of his ward. Soon, some of the DMK councillors joined him and started raising slogans against the ruling party and the civic body’s inability to solve the problems in the corporation. “I have been continuously pressing for basic facilities like street lights, water and proper roads but the civic body has turned a deaf ear,” he alleged.

He further alleged that the ward received drinking water once in two days when it was under the Kalapatty Panchayat. Now, water is being distributed only once in ten days after the area was added to the corporation.

To diffuse the ruckus police personnel who arrived at the scene detained the protestors. However, the council members of the AIADMK started raising slogans asking DMK members to leave the corporation campus. Tension prevailed in the corporation campus as a heated argument arose between both the parties. The argument ended when the police took away the members of the DMK.
