Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation, which is part of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has demanded that the Government should provide three-times the salary to all the employees who are working in flood affected districts. They also presented various other demands during the demonstration at TNSTC district headquarters near Mettupalayam bus terminus.

“The government had promised to pay Rs.478 crores for increasing the diesel price. It had also said that Rs.300 crores will be allocated to the transport corporation for replacing the buses that were damaged by flood,” said a protester.

They further demanded that the government should fulfill the amounts of contract arrears and outstanding balances of retired employees. “It should also confer permanent employee status to daily wage earners, and put an end to bribes, scams, and recklessness of the officials,” another protester said.
