The city Police Commissioner A. Amalaj today switched on the high resolution cameras to monitor the entire seven kilometre stretch of Avinashi Road, from the airport to Hope College junction and also inaugurated outpost.

Installed at an estimated cost of Rs.40 lakh, these 12 cameras will help the police keep track of traffic violations, like illegal parking and also reduce crimes, especially during night hours.

Police officials can now sit in the control room and monitor the stretch. The recordings will have a backup of 30 days. The officials can also alert the road users with public address systems attached to the camera poles.

When Covai Post spoke to Best Advertisers Ashraf, who was also part of the initiative, he said “The initiative will ensure safety of people and reduce crime”. He also added that the surveillance cameras will be installed in the other important areas like Railway station, Race Course and Brooke fields road.

“The Surveillance cameras will work for 24 hours and will directly monitored by the control room at Commissioner’s Office”, he said. The surveillance cameras will be installed in all the signals too , he added.
