Couple commit suicide over aborted baby

Grieved over an aborted child, a couple near Mettupalayam chose to end their lives by hanging themselves, on Saturday.
According to sources, B. Revathy (24) and P. Baskaran (35) had got married in February 2015. Revathy was working as a computer operator at an electronics centre and Baskaran was selling fruits near Mettupalayam MGR Nagar.
Revathy had become pregnant. But, when she went for checkups, the doctor told her that the foetus’ head was too big for its body and suggested that the couple should abort the child, else the mother’s life could be in danger. The couple consulted with another doctor, who confirmed the earlier diagnosis.
The couple opted for medical termination of the pregnancy, but the husband and wife became extremely depressed over the loss of the baby. Unable to bear the grief, the couple hanged themselves to death at their residence at Nadur in Mettupalayam.
A case has been registered with the Thudiyalur All Woman Police Station and they are investigating.
