Tension prevailed for some time in front of BSNL main office, following a tussle between police and workers of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK), who had come to lay siege to its central installation as a protest against the reservation issue.

Led by TPDK General Secretary, K. Ramakrishnan, nearly 70 workers marched towards the office, to stage a demonstration protesting against the Centre for its failure to implement 27 per cent reservation for Backward Classes as recommended by the Mandal Commission, police said.

As the workers were prevented from reaching the office, many of them attempted
to remove the barricades and climb on to the gate of the BSNL office, which led to a scuffle between police and workers.

However, police brought the situation under control and arrested all the workers.
