Kovai Public School (CPS) student Hima Balan, of Class IX, secured 16th rank in Category 5 of the recently organized Wiz National Spell Bee contest, held at the South City International School in Kolkata.

“This is the first spelling contest of its kind that allows children (its participants) to combine learning and competition.” Pramila Balan, Hima’s mother, said.

Wiz National Spell Bee contest is a language programme that gives students of the elementary and middle school an opportunity to compete, learn, and develop their language skills at their own pace. The programme starts at school level, and progresses to the state- and national-level. 10 students were shortlisted from each of the 17 states to participate in the finals of the Wiz National Spell Bee contest.
