Suspected Maoist attack triggers heightened security along Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.
Security has been tightened on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, following the burning of a car by a group of suspected Maoists, just 12 km away from the border in the neighbouring State.
Vehicle checking has been intensified since early today and additional police force has been deployed to monitor the movement of strangers in the area. Special Task Force, Police, and Forest Department officials are carrying out combing operations in the forest areas, police said.
These steps were taken following a report that a car belonging to Bhaskaran was burnt by suspected Maoists. Five police stations in the area, including Gudalur, Pandalur, Devala and New Hope, are on high alert and personnel are keeping vigil with arms.
Similarly, vehicle checks have been intensified at check posts like Pattavayal, Devala, Nadugani and Nambiarkunnu, to prevent the infiltration of ‘fleeing Maoist activists.’
