Over 100 BJP workers today laid siege to the Karamadai Police Station in the rural limits, seeking action against the Inspector Venkatesan, for allegedly using abusive language against the Party North District Secretary, V.P. Janaganathan.

According to Party sources, Jaganathan had gone to meet Inspector Venkatesan, to know the status about a dispute between two brothers over a land in the area, some 30 km from here.

Venkatesan had allegedly used abusive language and asked him to mind his business without interfering in the matter, they said.

As the incident came to light, over 100 BJP workers gathered in front of the police station and laid siege to it, seeking an apology from the Inspector. Failing which they sought action to be taken against him for insulting a person of standing, police sources said.

As things appeared to go out of control, additional police were requisitioned from Mettupalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam and Sirumugai stations to beef up the security.

Meanwhile, DSP Ravishankar arrived at the spot and managed to convince the workers. Only after Inspector Venkatesan apologised for his behaviour, the workers dispersed, they said.

Some posters have been put up in the area calling for a total bandh in Karamadai to protest against the Inspector for allegedly seeking bribe from the public.
